Take a guided walk along city's historic canals
Residents can take a historic look at Etruria on March 28th with a guided walk around part of the city's canal system.
Visitors can join Glenn Airey from the Etruria Industrial Musuem on the walk which includes a circuit of the Etruria junction leading up to the site of the old Wedgwood factory and on to Etruria Hall and Festival Park.
Information on the industrial and social history of the area from the 1760s to the present day will be provided to guests. Places highlighted will include the site of the first hospital in North Staffordshire, the scene of an 18th century food riot and Etruria Wharf; the busiest local canal port in the 19th century.
The walk, which covers both the Trent & Mersey and Caldon canals, has been organised by the Etruria Industrial Musuem in partnership with British Waterways and is funded by The Big Lottery Fund as part of the 'Canals for the Community' project. "We should all be proud of our city's incredibly unique history and this walk will highlight some of the key events which made Stoke-on-Trent such a wonderful landmark for culture in the country."
The one and a half hour walk is free of charge and will leave Etruria Industrial Museum at 1:30pm.
