6 Circular Walks Along the Caldon
by Peter Matthews

This booklet of 6 walks costs £2.40, including postage and packing.

A series of six walks along some of the most beautiful stretches of the Caldon Canal. Each walk is fully described and should take between one and two hours to complete.
Because the Caldon lies in a valley, there is some uphill, particularly at the furthest reaches of the canal. However if the climbs are taken gently, the walker will be rewarded with splendid views of the Staffordshire countryside as well as seeing the canal from a different perspective.
Some of the paths are well waymarked as they are part of other footpath routes whilst in places the paths are not so well used but the walker should have little difficulty in finding the route. As far as possible the chosen routes should present little difficulty although after prolonged rain some of the stretches can be muddy - even the canal towpath. A good pair of Wellingtons will cope with any mud and in dry weather any sensible footwear is adequate.
These walks are chosen primarily for the visitor and is perhaps unique in that it also looks after the boater as suitable mooring spots from which to start the walk are indicated.

From this hopeless beginning developed one of the most dramatic adventures in our whole history.
