Anti-vandal mechanisms fitted at Planet Lock
Anti-vandal / handcuff / water conservation mechanisms have been added to Planet Lock (lock 3) on the Caldon Canal.
These locks have been put in place as a result of local vandalism and because of restricted water supply due to Rudyard reservoir currently being offline following the breach near to Leek in November 2009.
Similar
mechanisms have been installed to protect water supplies on the Trent &
Mersey Canal at Etruria summit lock (40) and Trentham lock. (35)
A "Leeds & Liverpool" style anti-vandal key (illustrated right) is required to open the mechanism.
