Bridge 70 restoration

In November 2009, CUCT began planning the restoration of Bridge 70 of the Uttoxeter Canal. We have been invited to submit bids to the newly-formed Staffordshire Moorlands Living Landscape Partnership Scheme.

"You are cordially invited to submit ideas for projects that will make a real difference to the SMLLPS area between 2011 and 2015 (provisional dates) and which will deliver on Heritage Lottery Fund’s four funding priorities (conservation, participation, access and training)"

Over the next two years we developed our ideas, undertook studies and built a project plan for the preservation of the only complete original bridge on the Uttoxeter Canal and improvements to the adjacent section of towpath. Our final proposal was accepted by the renamed "Churnet Valley Living Landscape Partnership" and HLF, with volunteer-led work commencing on 27th December 2012. The project was completed on 29th September 2016.

On these pages we describe the project from inception to completion.
