Uttoxeter Canal Overview

The Uttoxeter Canal may conveniently be split into four sections with distinct characteristics. These are summarised here with comments from the recent Restoration Study in the linked page describing the route and main restoration issues in each section.

Some of the Uttoxeter Canal is on private land. Please do not attempt to access these areas without seeking permission from the relevant land owner. The main publicly accessible areas are at Froghall and the stretch from Oakamoor to Denstone, which runs very close to the Staffordshire Way.

Important note: The Study indicates that in various areas a number of possible routes could be taken. Whilst only one route has been costed this should not be interpreted an indication of intention to pursue that specific option. The purpose of the report was to establish that at least one viable route exists down the whole length of the canal.
