Froghall landmark chimney saved from demolition

Community leaders have stepped in at the last minute to prevent the controversial demolition of a prominent industrial chimney in the heart of the Churnet Valley. Before Christmas, the owners of the former Bolton's Copper Works, at Froghall, had served notice on Staffordshire Moorlands District Council that they were to tear down an early 20th Century, 100m chimney on the site.

But at today's (Tuesday, January 25) meeting of the council's cabinet, members agreed to include the chimney in Caldon Canal Conservation Area.
