The original line of the canal in this area was lost when the railway line opened and when this in turn closed the land was returned to farming.
The reinstated milepost has been located a short distance from the site of the original to put it on a public footpath, from where the original location may be seen. The line of the original canal is indicated by the two small trees appearing directly behind the milepost in the middle of the field. The canal ran parallel to the present footpath.
