Your committee

The Caldon Canal Society, later Caldon & Uttoxeter Canals Trust, started life as the Caldon Canal Committee in a series of meetings in 1963. It was a key partner in the restoration of the canal which reopened to navigation in 1974, with Society members involved in both planning and volunteer work parties. In 2003 the society was a member of the Destination Froghall partnership which opened the first lock and basin of the Uttoxeter Canal in 2005. The Society subsequently became a Trust and a Charitable Incorporated Organisation as in 2016. It is also a Registered Charity.

Work parties

Our regular work parties carry out vegetation management and other tasks, and are jointly led by the Inland Waterways Association North Staffordshire & South Cheshire Branch and Caldon & Uttoxeter Canals Trust.

Join us

Membership of the Trust is open to anyone who supports our aims. We are always looking for new recruits for our regular working parties on the Caldon and Uttoxeter Canals but even if you just want to read our magazine "Cherry Eye" or come to the occasional event, you will be made very welcome.

About the Trust

By the late 1950s traffic had virtually ceased on the Caldon Canal and in 1960 a closure notice was displayed at Etruria. Not wishing to see the canal closed, a number of enthusiasts got together and in 1963 the Caldon Committee (forerunner to the Caldon Canal Society, later the Caldon & Uttoxeter Canals Trust) was inaugurated with a view to saving the Canal.
